Donate Life Update

I knew Mike gave the gift of sight to two people but didn't know what happened to his donated bone. The NY Organ Donor Network sent me this update:

November 16, 2010

Dear Lisa,
Here is information on the release of some of Michael’s donated bone;
34 individuals between the ages of 17 and 77 have received some of Michael’s donated bone and associated tendons. These individuals live all over the United States, from New York to Washington State and from Illinois to South Carolina. Their surgical procedures included knee repairs, hip repairs, back surgery to repair collapsed disks, and oral surgery to build up jaw bones. Some examples of these are shown below.
A 17 and 27 year old males in New York City have had knee tendons repaired so that their mobility is fully restored. A 54 year old man in Michigan has had a hip repair using the head of Michael’s Femoral bone (large bone in upper leg). Several older individuals in Texas have had jaw bones built up with bone chips from Michael’s donated bone. They should be able to get better fitting false teeth or even implanted teeth thanks to these procedures. Men and women from Oregon, Tennessee, Missouri, Montana, North and South Carolina and Washington State have been able to move without back pain due to spacers made from your husband’s donated bone.
Michael’s donated bone has made a difference in the lives of these 34 people. He has become part of each of the recipient’s recovery of an improved life.
Please call if you have any questions.
Warmest regards,

Arlene Barnett

How great is that?
